How To Change Wheel Bearings

If you want to change the wheel beqringf but don't know how to change wheel bearings then read this article. You'll need all day for 4 wheels if you have AWD and if all-wheel drive, you must buy the whole hub because the wheel bearings are sealed and non replaceable. This is a job for three hours each front wheel and an hour or two at the rear for the average DIY-er.

Step by step guide for how to change wheel bearings:

  1. Remove the tire

  2. Remove the brake caliper and all channels use wire to hang it away. DO NOT ALLOW THE BRAKE HOSE TO SUSPEND THE FOOT! DO NOT LET THE DAYS OF THE FOOT THE brake hose! Use something to keep away from others from that brake hose.

  3. Remove the lock nut on the large central hub. Do not re-use. That Sucker is there big-time tight so you will need an impact wrench. You will not be able to delete it unless you have a 6 bar foot cheater or impact wrench and I've never seen a cheater bar 6 feet. If you do not have an impact wrench you will not succeed this project. Go to Lowe's and pick up an electric one for $ 40. They're awesome for removing mower blades too! Do it before removing items so you can drive your car.

  4. After removing the locknut from the hub, remove 3 bolts behind the hub that held the assembly to the leg. Remove the wiring of anti-freeze. She runs on the wheel and the engine compartment.

  5. After everything is unlocked / Unwired, remove the hub by pulling. You need a may need a rubber hammer or a leverage to do move. Be careful not to damage the splines on the shaft when the hub is removed.

  6. Do everything backwards and fix all securely.

Get a Chilton's Repair Guide for help. They have good pictures of the rooms. You can find these and Autozone. Autozone at national level so I'm sure there's one near you somewhere. Otherwise, any parts store should have the same stuff. You must ensure that you bolt to the correct lbs and a repair manual gives you the numbers of your year pattern.
